Danceteria was a popular nightclub in New York City from 1979 to 1986, and in the Hamptons until 1995. It had different locations in NYC, three in total.
The club was famous for its role in promoting new wave music in New York. Many musicians and artists who later became big names frequented the place during the 1980s. Some of these include Madonna, New Order!, the Smiths, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Run-DMC, Depeche Mode, Butthole Surfers, the B-52's, Bauhaus, Sonic Youth, Swans, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Soft Cell, Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, and Rob Zombie.
