A Barbara Kruger VS Supreme case study. What happens when you appropriate an artist’s designs over an extended period, to create a fashion brand?

Such could be deemed the case of famous American artist Barbara Kruger and the street-wear brand, Supreme who quite directly copied Kruger’s designs. Barbara Kruger is well-known for employing bold Futura (a font developed by Paul Renner) lettering against red boxes, and placing them over images that are often rendered in black and white.

Kruger is also often praised for her witty criticism of capitalism and the patriarchy, through employing graphic design and collages.
